During the election, I saw a photo of a sign on a Virginia roadside (this was on the Tubes), which boldly proclaimed, “Rednecks for Obama — Enough is Enough,” alongside an image of a Confederate flag.
Notoriety on my own terms
I had hoped to escape relative notoriety from my membership in Virginia Tech’s Class of 2007, and had I fled to California instead of Texas, politics might have kept clear of me.
Mars
Imagine jumping out of the space station, engaging your rockets to enter the atmosphere, and then parachuting and trying to land on a four-foot-by-four-foot raft in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Except that if you miss Mars, even by a little bit, there’s no coming back. And your only opportunity to steer is when you first engage your rockets. Oh, and you’re blindfolded.
Guns on Campus Op-Ed
The following is an op-ed submitted to the Dallas Morning News in response to an opinion piece. Colin Goddard, a survivor of the Virginia Tech tragedy, sent in an excellent response already, but we felt it was important to provide the perspective of students and faculty in Texas. Our letter was submitted to the Morning News, which only printed a few paragraphs.
